Rick Shorten was born in Washington, D.C. and has lived in many places around the world, including Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, and throughout the United States. He is currently based in Orem, Utah, where he creates symbolic figurative work primarily in oil on panels, often exploring relationships between people, the connection between mortals and Heaven, and the subtle experiences that shape life. His work balances thoughtful themes with a sense of curiosity, quirkiness, and optimism. When he’s not in the studio, you can find him playing guitar and writing songs. An extension of his creative practice after years of building acoustic guitars.
