This work explores the often invisible role of women as mothers in the act of holding not only children, but responsibility, attention, and emotional balance.

Working with glass, in this piece I reflect on my own biography as a young mother, protective, watching in an everyday scene where intimacy and responsibility always coexisted. I was once this young mother with a dog and young children whose days were consumed by the intensity of raising and caring for my family; a period of my life both overwhelming and extraordinary.

However, in this piece, I move beyond a literal representation of motherhood with a subtle triangle of gazes between a dog, a child and a mother.

All figures sit at the edge of a pool during summer recess in a setting that suggests leisure, relaxation and warmth. Yet the mother is alert and holds the center of the scene by being the still point through which attention circulates: the dog’s gaze locks onto the mother, the child’s attention follows the dog, and all lines converge back to the mother.

In this composition, my aim was to recreate a triangle of connection and love with women positioned as emotional and relational holders for others to thrive.

Glass was the perfect medium to amplify this tension. It’s transparency in some pieces mixed with high chroma in others. Likewise the sharpness and delicacy of family life echoed in each glass shard. My passion for vitreous glass paintings was in need of a narrative in which I could honor the complex role of women who hold love, memory, struggles- often quietly- at the center of everyday life.
