As a mom, I’ve become more aware of the invisible labor that often falls to women by default—especially the magic-making and tradition-keeping of holidays and special occasions. This painting is for anyone who has dusted flour off a recipe card for their grandma’s sugar cookies or great aunt’s pecan pie, or guided little hands through rolling dough. In an era of endless opportunity, I hope we embrace everything the world offers while also honoring the beautiful handcrafted traditions passed down through generations of women. Career, education, sports, and politics all matter—but so does homemade pie.
