In 2025 Four Lemons put out a call for artwork inspired by lemons. The idea of a woman
carrying a plastic bag of lemons down a grocery aisle came to me right away. At the time I didn’t realize what the painting meant. Now, having had some time to think about it I realize, it is about gratitude.
We live in a remarkable time of convenience. With year-round abundance and availability of
fresh produce. This work is an expression of gratitude for those who produce and transport
nutrition to our tables every day. In the painting the woman holds a bag of fresh lemons in contrast to the shelves loaded with processed foods. I owe a lot to my mother and grandmother who taught me how to cook and appreciate home cooked meals. They instilled in my heart a love for quality food. This painting is a meditation of gratitude on them as well as those who make my life convenient.
