What I Cultivate

I love my garden, and I love spending time there, turning the soil, tending plants, and watching things slowly grow. Cultivation often begins in the earth with seeds, sunlight, and patience. But over time I’ve realized that the truest cultivation happens in the quiet, daily work of nurturing a life.

The simple objects in this painting represent some of the most meaningful parts of my life. The plant represents growth that is intentional, rooted yet always reaching. It reminds me that the things I nurture, my home, my family, and my work, grow slowly through care and attention.

Around it are simple foods gathered to nourish and share. They speak to the quiet labor behind what I cultivate: planting, choosing, preparing, carrying, feeding. Small acts that sustain a life.

The faint branching lines in the tablecloth echo roots beneath the soil, suggesting how everything is connected: earth, home, and the people we care for.

For me, cultivating is an act of faith. It means tending to something long before you see the results.

And in the end, many of the things I cultivate in my life -food, beauty, connection, and care -are gathered together at the table with the people I love.
